Introduction

The rise of obesity in young children has become a growing concern in New Zealand. Our society is becoming unhealthier every year because of students lack of exercise. They need to be educated in physical fitness. They can achieve this by participating in physical education classes, learning how to warm up, stretch, and exercise. Obesity is growing in our population every year. Everyone should participate in physical education classes to learn about, and prevent obesity. If we continue with the lack of physical education in schools, we will continue to contribute to the poor health of students.
This table shows that a high percentage of children aged between 5 and 17 are obese within New Zealand. New Zealand is also ranked 4th globally with children of high obesity percentage. In my next few blogs I will endeavour to discuss and help prove my argument that Physical Education should be compulsory in New Zealand schools by stating the benefits that it has on their health.

Physical Health well-being.

It is evident that obesity is slowly becoming a growing factor in New Zealand and it all begins at school. How children use their leisure time slowly begins to change as they grow and inactivity during physical education is one of the first warning signs. The World Health organisation have come up with ways in which will improve the physical well-being of children ages from 5 to 17 as well as it's long term benefits.
To start with, scientific studies shown by the World Health Organisation provide evidence that physical activity play a major role in fundamental health for children and youth. Of course the more physical activity that children part take in will increase and enhance physical fitness when children are participating in a favored sports, but the significant benefits are within the well being of the child. The physical fitness benefits in which are documented are the fat reductions, enhancing of bone health as well as reducing the symptoms of depression and most importantly decrease the risks of obesity. Part taking in physical education in New Zealand and around will not only decrease the level of early deaths but will also however decrease disease risks that may lead to the same path. A hypothesis made by the organisation had been proven that when children maintaining high level and intensities of physical activity continuing into adult years will enable people to have lower risks of diabetes and cardiovascular disease later on in life. "Collectively, the research suggests that moderate- to
vigorous-intensity physical activity for at least 60 minutes per day would
help children and youth maintain a healthy cardiorespiratory and metabolic
risk profile." Normal weight youth in New Zealand that have a high level of participating in physical education tend to benefit more from lower health risks than those who are over weight and/or obesed.

Emotional Well-being.

The emotional well-being of children through physical activity varies. You have those that are competitive and cant take a good loss on the chin through sports, and then there are others whom participate in physical activity to develop confidence in working in a group. Physical activity is also proven to be a good way of stress relief. This parent kit shows that physical activity is good for emotional well being , such as
  • Helping children feel more confident, happy, relaxed,
  • Improving self- esteem and self concept,
  • Giving them a sense of belonging
  • Ability to sleep better
  •  Self expression
  • The opportunity to achieve

  • The New Zealand ministry of education state what the benefits are of physical activity on the emotional well being of the children. The emotional benefits that a child will achieve from physical activity can be gained by both and females. The ministry have also proven that children that lack in physical activity and movement opportunities show what they developmental delays. These effects can be a serious effect while in school and not taking alot during class time. Physical activity plays a big role in a child's state of mind and excercising the brain through physical activity can improve their skills academically in the class room with an active mind. It also helps mentally and excercising have proven to reduce stress and decrease mild to moderate depression and anxiety as I have stated before through physical benefits.Depression in itself is one of the most common mental health problems in todays society.

    Mental well-being and Concluding

Physical activity or participating in Physical Education doesn't necessarily benefit only physical aspects of health but it tackles a lot mentally. This is a bonus during and throughout your school life. Physical activity links to excecising the brain, leading to good progress inside the classroom and academic performances. Professor Charles Hillman, made a research proving that the capabilities of a child who is regularly active tends to learn more and perform well academically in the classroom. New Zealand classrooms are in need of 'remedies' or simple solutions such as being physically active to help in any way of a child's learning. Physical education in New Zealand schools are a must in my perspective or schools in general. With the high rank of being 4th out of hundreds of countries to be physically and unhealthily obese , we need to take action and in to consideration the long term negtive effects and life threatening situation these children will come to face later on in the future. Obesity is growing in our population every year. Everyone should participate in physical education classes to learn about, and prevent obesity. If we continue with the lack of physical education in schools, we will continue to contribute to the poor health of students.

    Feedback to others

    Leone

Talk about making something easy for me to read ! I personally love to read things that are exactly that - readable. What you have done here is great. However i found that some facts tended to steer away from what your debate was about. Apart from that this was very informative and opened my mind up to different ways of looking at how much responsibilities a parent holds on their child. In this case , there is alot. Well done. :)

What a statement! I like the extent you have gone to to prove your argument, personally speaking I do however disagree. In many ways yes Facebook has developed tonnes of ways for communication technologically speaking, but in general I see alot of regular form of communication that goes on within todays society.

Your layout and use of imagery in each of your posts have kept me intact to read the whole thing. You have done a great job and grabbing a reader's attention. Your debate and proven statements are a job well done.

This is such a broad topic to debate and expand on so i commend you for your point of view as well as narrowing it down to the limited words given, seeing that i agree with your argument as well. I like how you've taken a topic that is still so very fresh in today's society. I find that more are against than for this and reasons may vary from ones upbringing, culture and most commonly religious beliefs. Personally speaking I have a lot of homosexual friends who are much more loving towards kids than some straight men are. If I were to do this debate I know it will all be from personal interest. You have done a great job of incorpoorating both views and your layout has a very good flow to it. Your use of language is also not too formal and not at all informal. This is great stuff Akosita

    Lane

This has to be my favourite use of layout by far. You have a unique layout that would keep a reader like myself looking all over for what's next. I also like your choice of argument seeing that this is such a common disaster in New Zealand due to teenage drinking. If anything this is a worry. In the stats you have shown it clearly proves why New Zealand driving age should be raised to an older age. Teenagers are still not mentally ready for the life threatening effects that could occur if not taken seriously what they are doing. Your use of language is readable and over all this topic and everything displayed is awesome.

Hi John ! Oooh , I like the topic but I don't really come across the argument if yo get what i mean. What's proven? And another thing a use of imagery would've been nice to help make your page stand out a bit . You have somewhat listed down things about space exploration but where is your argument. Apart from that I think you have done an okay job. Well done.
